Welcome to Dolphins Class

Our Year 6 class is called Dolphins and is taught by Mr Harrison.

At Ashington CofE Primary School, children in Key Stage 2 continue to develop as confident, independent learners through a broad and engaging curriculum. Teaching builds on earlier foundations with a greater emphasis on subject knowledge, critical thinking and the application of skills across different areas of learning.

Our curriculum is enriched by high-quality, carefully chosen texts that promote a love of reading and support the development of language, comprehension and writing. These texts often provide meaningful contexts for learning across the curriculum, encouraging discussion, creativity and deeper understanding.

We take an adaptive approach to teaching, recognising the diverse needs of our learners. Through skilled questioning, targeted support and appropriate challenge, we ensure that all children are able to access learning and make strong progress.

Curiosity and engagement remain central to our approach. We use exciting hooks, real-life experiences and inspiring themes to capture children’s interest and bring learning to life. Opportunities for collaboration, problem-solving and independent thinking are embedded throughout the curriculum, helping children to become motivated, resilient and reflective learners, well prepared for the next stage of their education.

Our Classroom Reflective Area

The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our school community plays a major role in school life. Each classroom has a reflective space where children can go to reflect, pray or simply ‘be’.
